Lovelovelove - 23:17 Helen Burns - The first solo EP released by Michael "Flea" Balzary in July 2012, bassist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The material is, in his words: "It does not have songs that are like the Chili Peppers at all. It is a mostly instrumental, weird and arty record, the music is mostly just me creating soundscapes that are very emotional for me, but certainly not for everyone!". Included are some jazz-y soundscapes with trumpet and warm bass, but also some more electronic inspired work with a drum machine, some piano work, and vocal contributions by Patti Smith and the kids' choir at the Silverlake Conservatory (aren't they fantastic?). The EP itself is named after Helen Burns, from Charlotte Brontë's 'Jane Eyre'. Jane is sent to a cash-strapped highly-protestant/puritan boarding school, which she initially hates, by her spiteful Aunt & relatives. There she befriends fellow student Helen Burns. Helen is peaceful, loving, and highly religious, and helps Jane, through example, to let go of some of her initial bitterness and hatred for a more peaceful outlook on life.
