Here's a video of a Lionel New York Central Empire State Express Hudson steam locomotive with the separate sale PT Tender. This locomotive was released by Lionel in 2005. Some of it's features include TMCC, Railsounds 5.0, Odyssey speed control, operating head, and work lights, and a fan driven smoke unit. The tender was also released by Lionel in 2005 Some of the features of this tender include Railsounds 5.0, an ElectroCoupler on the rear of the tender, two optional drawbars, marker lights, a back up light, and four mini FatBoy speakers. As time went on the New York Central removed the side skirting covering the air pumps on the two J3a Empire State Hudson locomotives for ease of maintenance. A cool feature Lionel included with this model is that the side skirting is also removable. Compare this video to my other Empire State Express vid and you'll see the difference. I'm far from an expert on the New York Central. But based on some research the New York Central changed their J3a's to PT, or Pedestal, Tenders between 1943 and 1946. Even the 20th Century Limited Dreyfuss Hudson locomotives received these tenders, but were painted to match the locomotive.
